The New Name given for our salvation
The Bible teaches us that everything has a time and a purpose and for every activity under the heavens there is a season and a reason.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.
The Bible says there is a time for everything. Every activity has a purpose. We too should have a purpose for everything we do on this earth. For instance, we go to school to graduate. We exercise to stay healthy, and we sleep to get rest.
So, then what is our purpose in our life of faith? Let’s see through the Bible.
1 Peter 1:8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,
The purpose of our faith is the salvation of our souls. Salvation is eternal life. To give us salvation, God divided 6 thousand years of redemption work into 3 ages and gave us a different name for the savior in each age. We must receive the name of the savior who brings salvation in each age.
Matthew 28:19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
God told us to baptize all nations of people in the name of the Father, name of the Son and name of the Holy Spirit. This means that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have their own names.
In the age (or in the time) of the Father; Jehovah was the name of the Savior.
What is the name of the savior in the age of the Son? It is Jesus. But have you ever heard of the name of the Holy Spirit?
Many people do not know the name of the Holy Spirit. Because many people don’t know the name of the Holy Spirit, let us study more about the name of the savior in the age (time) of the Holy Spirit by first seeing who the savior is in each age.
Who is the Savior in each age?
Let’s start with the savior in the Old Testament times (In the age of the Father).
Isaiah 43:11 I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior.
In the age of the Father, the Bible testifies Jehovah was the savior. God’s people could not be saved by any other name in this age. Then when the age changed to the age of the son, who was the Savior?
Acts 4:11 Jesus is “the stone you builders rejected”, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
In the age of the Son, the Bible testifies the savior was Jesus. Apostle Peter said that there was no other name given to men by which we must be saved except Jesus.
As the age changed from the age of the Father to the age of the Son, the name of the savior changed from Jehovah to Jesus. So, as the age changed, the name of the savior also changed.
God gave us a different name for the savior in each age, so each name has a time limit.
This is called “Time Limitation.”
Now we live in a new age. It is the age of the Holy Spirit. Then what is the name of the savior in this age, the age of the Holy Spirit? Let us find out through the words of Jesus.
Revelation 3:12 The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name.
The “I” in this verse is referring to Jesus. So, the phrase “my new name” is Jesus’ new name.
Can the name Jesus be the new name? NO – It’s because the name Jesus is not new. In this age of the Holy Spirit, Jesus will give us his new name.
Let’s see another verse that testifies about the new name.
Revelation 2:17 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.
The Bible says, he who is victorious, will receive a stone with a new name. Let us see whom this stone represents.
1 Peter 2:4 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him.
This living Stone—rejected by humans, represents Jesus – In Rev 2:17 the name written on the stone is Jesus’ new name.
But who will know Jesus’ new name? The answer is only the ones who receives and believes the new name, will be those who know the name of the savior in the age of the Holy Spirit.
Whose witnesses must people be in each age?
Next, let’s see whose name people are to be witnesses to in each age. First, in the age of the Father whose witnesses should we be?
Isaiah 43:10 “You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.
In the age of the Father, God’s people were to be witnesses to Jehovah. But why is that?
It’s because the Savior in the age of the Father was Jehovah. But when the age changed to the age of the son whose witnesses should we be?
Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
In the Age of the Son. Jesus said we must be his witnesses. It is because the Savior changed from Jehovah to Jesus as the age of the Father changed to the age of the Son; (Time Limitation).
Now the time has changed from the age of the son. Then whose witnesses must we be in the Age of the Holy Spirit? The answer is easy, it is The new name.
In each age, whose name must people pray in?
Whose name should God’s people pray in? The Bible teaches us that in each age prayers of God’s people can only be answered by the Savior in their own age. In the age of the Father, King David prayed to Jehovah (Psalm 116:4).
When the age change to the age of the son, Jesus told us to pray in his name (John 16:24). Jesus said “Until now you have not asked for anything in my name, ask and you shall receive. Before this time the Apostles were still praying in the name of Jehovah. But we don’t live in the age of the Father nor in the age of the Son. We live in the age of the Holy Spirit, so we must pray in the new name of Jesus.
Whose name must people call on for their salvation in each age?
Now let us find out through the Bible whose name God’s people must call on for their salvation in each age.
Joel 2:32 And everyone who calls, on the name of the Lord will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, there will be deliverance, as the Lord has said, even among the survivors, whom the Lord calls.
In the age of the Father, God’s people called on Jehovah to be saved. It is because the Savoir in the age of the Father was Jehovah. But what about when the age changed to the age of the Son?
Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
To receive salvation God’s people called on Jesus. Because the age changed to the age of the Son. We neither live in the age of the Father nor the Son. We live in the age of the Holy Spirit, and we must call on the new name of Jesus to receive salvation in this age.
We have studied through the Bible, that we must know the new name of the Savior in this age to receive the goal of our faith the salvation of soul.
We must diligently study the prophecies of the Bible, so that we can know the new name of Christ our Savior who gives us the promise of salvation in this age. Only through the Bible can we know who our savior is (John 5:39). From now on, let us vigorously and carefully study the prophecies of the Bible to learn about the savior in the age of the Holy Spirit, so that we may call on the New Name and be saved in this last age.
